As you can imagine, we are big fans of sports car racing at CXC Simulations and the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a round-the-clock, can’t miss event. This year, we did something a little bit different as we partnered with our friends at Audi and Slightly Mad Studios to celebrate this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of Audi City.

Held concurrently to the 24 Hours of Le Mans over the past weekend, Audi City was a VIP experience at five locations around the world – Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Istanbul and Shanghai. And not only was it a viewing party for the 24 Hours, but it also gave attendees the chance to drive an Audi R18 e-tron on the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe on the CXC Simulations Motion Pro II and the Project Cars game. For an even more complete experience, attendees raced in virtual reality thanks to our VR integration with Oculus Rift.

But it wasn’t just the VIP’s who got behind the wheel. Audi sent its drivers from the DTM championship to compete in the ’24 Minutes of Le Mans”, a scaled-down endurance race that featured an accelerated time cycle from day, to night, and back to day and featured the same weather conditions as the 2015 race. Audi DTM drivers Edoardo Mortara, Nico Muller, Mike Rockenfeller and Adrian Tambay all took part.

The Audi City events required a total team effort from the CXC Simulations team, with a large amount of packing, planning, logistics and configuring required to pull off an event that sent our simulators and staff to five cities spread across Europe and Asia. In addition to delivering all of the hardware to each location, the CXC Simulations team performed all of the setup, software, and infrastructure to pull the event off.

Their hard work paid off because the events at each city were hailed as a huge success. The simulators were the highlight of each Audi City event, with attendees enjoying the ability to learn firsthand what it is like to drive an Audi R18 e-tron down the Mulsanne in the rain at night. All four of Audi’s DTM drivers also reported that the addition of the VR to the Motion Pro II’s created an even more addictive experience.
